On Wednesday 7 October we have Day Two of our Interiors Sale. The sale features a wide range of furniture and works of art - with pedestal desks a prominent theme! With the current times it seems to be that working from home will continue for the foreseeable future. The dining room table may have seemed alright as a temporary measure, but are you finding that it isn't cutting it anymore? Now is the time to invest in your home office and purchase a desk that is not only stylish but saves you money on your chiropractor bills. Our Interiors sale offers you a wonderful array of styles and sizes to suit all budgets.
A study commissioned by the International Antiques and Collectors Fairs (IACF) found that the carbon footprint of a modern chest of drawers is 16 times higher than that of its antique equivalent. Buying antique furniture is one of the best ways to ensure that you not only discover brilliantly original pieces to suit your needs beautifully, but you also help to save the planet too.
Lot 511 in the auction is a wonderful Victorian mahogany twin pedestal desk, circa 1850. In good condition, it is a high quality example, and comes with its original handles and an arrangement of ash lined drawers opposed by false drawer fronts.
For a more unique piece, have a look at Lot 321 with its unusual make and form. It is a figured hardwood pedestal desk, almost certainly by Globe Wernicke. This London based company were well known office furnishers of the 20th century. They are probably best remembered for their range of 'elastic' bookcases, but they also produced other library and office furniture.
Buying vintage or antique also results in owning an item with a far richer history, longer life expectancy, a greater return on investment and more style and originality to outlive any modern counterpart or trend.
Lot 452, is one of the earliest examples in the sale, dating from the early 19th century. This mahogany twin pedestal desk comes with opposing false front drawer fronts.
If you are looking for something with smoother lines, then take a look at Lot 341. This 20th century walnut pedestal desk is a good model of its type, made as a copy of a classic Victorian design with it's kidney outline. It is incredibly well built with its solid oak lined drawers, and is sure to stand the test of time.
For a traditional style with a more modern aesthetic, we have Lot 653, a pine pedestal desk. With it's pine construction it is more suited to modern tastes.
Also featured across this two day sale are selected items from a London Belgravia property, designed by Nina Campbell in the 1970's. One such item is Lot 687, a 20th century mahogany partners' desk in George III style.
More than just you working from home? Buying more than one desk may seem excessive, and to save on any arguments as to who should get the desk, then Lot 687 might be the perfect solution - it features an arrangement of drawers to each side allowing both parties equal use!
These are just a few examples, there are plenty more options to choose from in the sale. See the full selection here.
