As summer approaches, our Art & Interiors auction on 4 June features a variety of pieces offering period character and craftsmanship, as well as design-led furniture. This is an auction with plenty to discover for anyone looking to bring depth and personality to their home, with highlights including a private collection from Amsterdam; a striking group of ebony and cane seating; and a varied selection of continental furniture.
One of the most compelling elements of the sale is a group of 45 lots from the collection of an Englishman in Amsterdam (Lots 1001–1045). Reflecting decades of thoughtful collecting, French commodes sit alongside Dutch and German portraits, and classical engravings next to 20th century oils, offering the kind of layered mix that gives a home its sense of story. Among the highlights is a carved marble model of the Uffizi Boar (Lot 1002), a charming late 19th century copy of Florence's beloved Porcellino.
Alongside the Amsterdam collection, the sale also features a substantial group of ebony and cane furniture that feels particularly in tune with current interior trends. With interior design magazines highlighting a "rattan renaissance", the growing appetite for woven and cane-panelled furniture has now made its way to the auction market. This group of eighteen armchairs (Lots 1181-1183 & Lot 1190) and four 'X' framed stools (Lot 1187) in dark ebony frames strikes a compelling balance. The ebony brings weight and formality, while the woven cane panels keep things open, textured and light.
Design enthusiasts should also note the eighteen engravings of classical busts after Antonio Maria Zanetti (Lot 1026), from his 1740 survey Delle Antiche Statue Greche e Romane. These have a wonderful provenance linking them to Prince Hendrik of the Netherlands. A uniform set of this size lends itself naturally to serial hanging - providing any corridor, staircase or library wall with a sense of intention. Paired with the Louis XVI kingwood and parquetry commode (Lot 1110), the sale offers pieces with genuine period authority that sit comfortably alongside contemporary furnishings.
Together, these highlights make the June Art & Interiors sale a rich and varied offering. Whether you're drawn to the lived-in character of the Amsterdam collection, the textural appeal of the ebony and cane seating, or the quiet elegance of 18th-century continental furniture, this auction offers the chance to furnish with objects that carry real history, craft and individuality.
