Silver and Objects of Vertu

We offer items of silver covering the whole range of the market, from early English silver to modern designs from the most esteemed master makers, notably Paul Storr, Hester Bateman, Matthew Boulton, George Wickes and Georg Jensen, to collectable modern and contemporary designers such as Gerald Benny, Stuart Devlin and Christopher Lawrence. These sales often include Provincial English, Scottish and Irish silver.

European and Colonial silver is also well represented with recent auctions including Imperial Russian pieces by Fabergé and Ovchinnikov amongst others, as well as Chinese Export pieces by makers such as Wang Hing and Indian Colonial items by Oomersi Mawji.

Significant pieces of English and Continental silver are often to be found in our renowned single owner collections and house sales which take place throughout the year.

Our objects of vertu selections include pieces from the 17th century to the mid-19th century. Objects of vertu were often exchanged as strategic gifts between royalty, aristocrats and court dignitaries. They reflect the prevailing tastes of their times, invariably featuring exquisite decoration in hardstones, mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell, as well as painted enamel and micromosaics.

Snuff boxes, gold boxes, portrait miniatures, desk accessories, decorated fans and enamels are all offered in this category.
