Dreweatts is delighted to be hosting Sladmore Gallery's summer exhibition of monumental sculpture this summer, from 1 June - 30 September 2026. Set in the gardens at Donnington Priory, the exhibition brings together modern and contemporary works that explore connections to the natural world through both subject matter and form, with highlights by Emile-Antoine Bourdelle, Nic Fiddian-Green, Geoffrey Dashwood, Johnny Hawkes and Kai Nielsen.
Nic Fiddian Green has been represented by the Sladmore Gallery for more than 25 years. Best known for his iconic equine sculptures, his work ranges from monumental public commissions to more intimate pieces, and is held in prestigious public and private collections worldwide. His sculptures are created by first modelling the work and casting it in resin before hammering over lead sheets to create the final shape. The sheets are then joined by handmade rivets. The technique means that each sculpture is unique.
Emile-Antoine Bourdelle was a French sculptor and pupil of Auguste Rodin. His work is characterised by its romantic themes, monumental forms, and inspiration drawn from both classical antiquity and the medieval world. Bourdelle championed the return of sculpture to its traditional architectural and outdoor settings, combining powerful modelling with emotional depth and expressive strength.
Johnny Hawkes is a renowned sculptor and furniture maker. He is a self-taught artist who has worked predominantly throughout his life with wood.
His monumental abstract sculptures have been installed in public spaces and are also held in many prestigious private collections.
Geoffrey Dashwood is a distinguished British sculptor renowned for his elegant bronze sculptures of birds. By reducing each subject to its essential form, he creates refined, minimalist compositions that capture the grace and character of his subjects. Smooth, flowing surfaces are enhanced with richly coloured patinas, lending each work a subtle sense of movement and vitality.
Danish artist Kai Nielsen, renowned for his expressive sculptures of the female form, was regarded as one of the leading sculptors of his generation. Celebrated for his significant contribution to Danish art and modernism, he also played a pivotal role in bringing sculpture into the public realm and making it more accessible to a wider audience.
