This year, Dreweatts is delighted to unveil a new collaboration with Watts 1874, the fifth-generation family firm renowned for its exceptional fabrics, wallpapers and murals. As part of this partnership, selected pieces from our Fine Furniture and Works of Art auctions will be thoughtfully paired with Watts 1874 textiles to create elegant room settings, offering fresh inspiration throughout our catalogues.
The collaboration debuts with our ‘Spring’ auction on Tuesday 24 & Wednesday 25 March 2026. In partnership with the team at Watts 1874, we have chosen three fabrics in a light, uplifting spring palette: ‘Marinella’ damask in Lilla Pink; ‘Alto Stripe’ in Pea Green Chiffon; and ‘Bowood’ damask in Venus Blue. Each will be presented alongside a carefully curated selection of fine furniture and works of art.
The partnership will continue across 2026 with seasonal showcases of Watts 1874 designs. Every Fine Furniture and Works of Art auction will feature distinctive fabrics and colourways inspired by the character of the changing seasons. Ahead of the ‘Spring’ sale, Marie-Séverine de Caraman Chimay, CEO of Watts 1874, shares further insight into the company and this exciting collaboration.
Marking a second chapter of collaboration, Watts 1874 creates once again historical synergy by aligning its archival designs with Dreweatts 1759. This new encounter around the timeless art of elegant living in beautiful interiors unites in harmony two iconic British heritage brands. Conceived as a visual prelude to Dreweatts prestigious upcoming auctions “Fine Furniture, Sculpture, Carpets, Ceramics & Works of Art”, this partnership places decoration at the heart of the auction narrative, where objects, interiors and history take the stage.
Founded in 1874 by the visionary architects George Frederick Bodley, Thomas Garner and George Gilbert Scott Jr., Watts 1874 emerged from a profound belief in beauty, proportion and craftsmanship. Shaped by travels across Europe and an intimate study of historic interiors, Watts 1874 built an extraordinary archive that continues to enrich its creative vision today. That legacy finds new expression here in a series of fine fabrics, presented not only as ornament alone but also as atmospheres, framing the auction’s lots with sensitivity, bringing a special decor and uplifting colours to the historical pieces on view at Dreweatts’ Queen Anne salerooms at Donnington Priory, Newbury, Berkshire.
Previously used in palaces, churches and aristocratic homes, Watts 1874 designs selected for Dreweatts are fundamentally classical yet simultaneously incredibly versatile in nature. Following the rhythm of the seasons, the designs of sumptuous sprays of foliage recall a period when interiors evolved throughout the year, their colours and motifs responding to change of light and reflections. From Baroque-style inspiration to more modern large stripes, sophisticated silk and delicate nuanced palettes evoke the romance of stately homes, rediscovered through a contemporary eye as the auction house reveals its treasures.
More than a renewed creative encounter, this partnership between Watts 1874 and Dreweatts reflects a shared century-old philosophy: an attention to details, to the quality of materials, to the emotional resonance of each object, a curiosity for their provenance and story and finally a sense of style in building a magnificent scenography for a special auction. An invitation to take a closer look and deeper interest in the art of collecting, not just for acquisition of fine furniture, sculpture, carpets, ceramics or other works of art, but to complete a beautiful interior as a continuation of living history.
Enhancing this photographic collaboration, the Fine Furniture, Sculpture, Carpets, Ceramics and Works of Art auction will offer three exclusive lots featuring Watts 1874 fabrics (Lots 479-481). This provides a rare opportunity for design enthusiasts to acquire a piece of the brand’s signature craftsmanship at auction and integrate it into their own interiors.
