On Tuesday 10 February, Dreweatts held its Old Master, British and European Art auction which offered a fascinating private collection of Dutch paintings dating from the late sixteenth to the mid-seventeenth century, a period known as the Dutch Golden Age. The auction also offered a magnificent group portrait by Ramsey Richard Reinagle which is considered as one of his most successful compositions. The sale was a great success, and with strong international interest, it totalled £1,391,000, achieving 142% of the presale estimate.
Commenting on the results, Head of Department, Brandon Lindberg, said “The sale saw strong bidding across all categories. We were particularly pleased with the strength of bidding for 17th Century Dutch Old Masters, especially the works from a private collection (lots 37-47). These were led by Gillis van Tilborgh's 'An interior with a Cloth Merchant' which sold for £138,800.”
