On Thursday 20 November, we held our auction of Fine Watches and Luxury Accessories. The auction showcased an exceptional array of 1960s and 1970s watches, highlighted by notable examples from Patek Philippe’s elegant Ellipse collection and several iconic Cartier Tank models. Additional highlights included a group of remarkable chronograph pocket watches from the late 1800s and early 1900s which came from the Astor family collection at Cliveden. This thoughtfully curated assortment attracted strong interest, with a 89% sell-through rate, underscoring the enduring appeal of refined design and masterful craftsmanship.
Reflecting on the auction, Dreweatts’ Head of Luxury, James Nicholson, said “With enthusiastic bidding from countless countries including the United States, Singapore, China, Spain, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands, this sale confirmed the current trend for timeless classic pieces, where buyers competed ferociously to secure the right watches. In particular, the sale continued the upward trajectory for 1960s and 1970s Cartier London Tank watches that we saw in the spectacular results of our earlier 2025 watch sale, driven by strong international interest in pieces produced in London during the period when Jean-Jacques Cartier — the last Cartier family member to run a Cartier business — headed the New Bond Street workshop.”
