On Tuesday 23 September, Dreweatts held its Fine Silver & The Art of Dining auction, offering statement silverware alongside modern luxury-branded porcelain and glassware. The auction was a resounding success, totalling £1 million, 179% of the pre-sale estimates with a 90% sell-through rate.
Commenting on the results, James Nicholson, Head of Dreweatts’ Luxury Department, said, “It was an enormous pleasure to curate the 'Fine Silver & The Art of Dining' sale and bring the pieces to buyers in such a creative way through our collaboration with Maison Fête et Cie. Buyers from around the world responded with enthusiasm, resulting in strong hammer prices and demonstrating the global demand for both period and modern silverware and tableware that can be used stylishly in contemporary homes.”
We were also fortunate to collaborate with Miranda Lance, founder of Maison Fête et Cie, who demonstrated how antique tableware can be seamlessly incorporated into everyday life. As part of this collaboration, she curated exquisite tablescapes for both our catalogue imagery, as well as styled table settings for our Newbury viewing, offering clients inspiration on how these remarkable antique pieces can be used in modern settings.
The sale featured a number of important private collections, including the Davies-Cooke Collection from Gwysaney Hall, the Brigadier Peter Acland Collection of Early West Country Spoons, the private collection of a Lancashire Estate, the Worshipful Company of Musicians Collection of Trophy Cups, and a private collection of Russian Cloisonné Enamels, as well as fine silver and objects of vertu from the Astor Family at Cliveden. Many of these pieces had languished in storerooms for years, so it was both exciting and a privilege to bring them back into the light, making them beautiful and relevant once more.
Here, we take a look at some of the highlights.
