Auction Results | At Home in Three Counties: The Collection of Donald & Hilary Macpherson | 29 April 2026

On Wednesday 29 April, Dreweatts was delighted to present at auction the collection of Donald and Hilary Macpherson. Donald was a collector of wide-ranging and discerning taste, with interests spanning furniture, treen and silver, as well as modern art and Anglo-Indian art. Modesty may have kept Donald from identifying as a collector, but the legacy he leaves behind tells another story - one of vision, dedication, and the enduring art of living with beauty.

The strength of the collection was reflected in the sale results, as collectors from around the world competed eagerly for the opportunity to acquire pieces. After 9 hours of fierce bidding in the room, online, and via telephone, the auction surpassed expectations, achieving a total of £1,366,000, making 272% of the pre-sale estimate, with a 99% sell-through rate. Highlights included two Company School landscapes, which realised £208,100, and a set of six watercolours by a Delhi-based artist from an illustrated manuscript, which sold for £75,800, underscoring the sustained appeal and growing interest in Anglo-Indian art.
