Joshua Hale

Joshua Hale is an interior designer and artist whose work is distinguished by a deep appreciation for colour, pattern and craftsmanship. After training in design at the London College of Fashion, Joshua transitioned into interior design, a journey significantly shaped by his time working with Emma Burns, Managing Director of Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler, whose influence deepened his understanding of decoration and scale, antiques and the art of creating atmospheric spaces.

In 2023 Joshua established his own design studio. Since then he has undertaken a diverse range of projects including country houses, a mill farmhouse in Gloucestershire, and a number of Colleges within Oxford University.

Joshua comments, “I aim to decorate quietly, where the end result is wholly focused on my clients and how they wish to live. I like my interiors to feel collected rather than overly prescribed, where an overarching design must always be in place to prevent it from feeling like a jumble sale. The most successful rooms ultimately should feel personal and lived-in.

"Alongside my design work, I continue to paint, working predominantly in oils on canvas and board. Painting and interiors constantly inform one another: the way I think about a room is often similar to how I approach a canvas, building layers, balancing colour and searching for an ambience that feels instinctive and alive.”
