Coming up we have our Wine and Spirits timed online auction ending on 28 June. Ahead of the sale, Mark Robertson, Head of Dreweatts Wine department, picks out the highlight.
There is no doubt that the highlight of our June sale is the 1990 Vosne Romanee, Cros Parantoux, Henri Jayer.
In perfect condition from a private cellar, it is a privilege to offer this exciting wine for sale.
Just 175 cases of Henri Jayer's Vosne-Romanee Cros Parantoux were produced and this is one of the few remaining bottles. One of the finest vintages this estate has ever produced - the 1990 vintage is one of the few remaining wines that were crafted directly by Jayer on the estate.
In the 1950s, many farmers in the region grew artichokes, since phylloxera had destroyed many of the vines. Henri Jayer put Cros Parantoux on the wine map, a previously unknown terroir, after planting new vines, many of which are still alive and producing wine today. In 1996, Jayer handed the estate over to his nephew, Emmanuel Rouget, who still makes wine in Cros Parantoux.
