Emerging in the early 20th century, the Swedish Grace design movement embodies a quiet, assured elegance, defined by balance, symmetry, and a restrained approach to ornament. Positioned between neoclassicism and modernism, it refines simplicity into an art form, resulting in interiors that feel both timeless and strikingly relevant today.
While often compared to Art Deco, Swedish Grace distinguishes itself through a softer, more lyrical expression. It draws on Nordic folk traditions alongside classical influences, and is marked by a nuanced, harmonious use of colour that is uniquely characteristic of Swedish design.
In our upcoming Modern Design & Decorative Art auction on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 April, we are pleased to present a selection of works in the Swedish Grace style. Ahead of the sale, Head of Modern Design & Decorative Art, Gemma Sanders introduces three highlights.
