The Art of Cricket: The Mark Loveday Collection | 19 August 2025

Cricket, that most quintessentially English of sports, is a passion for many of us, but few have dedicated as much time and effort into the preservation and promotion of the game and its history as the late Mark Antony Loveday. This August, Dreweatts has the honour of presenting at auction a series of artworks and memorabilia from his impressive collection of paintings, drawings and prints amassed over the course of his life and linked by their connection to this most treasured sporting tradition.

The son of stockbroker and chairman of the London Stock Exchange George Loveday, Mark continued the old family tradition, becoming a senior partner of Cazenove - the Queen's stockbroker. However, cricket was his greatest love, and he captained the cricket first team whilst studying at Winchester College, as well as both the cricket and football teams whilst studying modern history at Magdalen College, Oxford. He also played for the Authentics, the university cricket second XI. He was of course also an avid collector, and his collection of cricket-themed art and memorabilia is arguably the finest in the world, with pieces often on public display at the Middlesex Country Cricket Club's heritage museum.

Now, on 19 August 2025, Dreweatts will offer the chance to own some of these rare artworks that reveal the game's fascinating history and evolution, all selected from Mark Antony Loveday's prestigious collection.

Lots with a low estimate below £1,000 will be sold without reserve (except lots 71,72 & 84).
