Alvar Aalto (Finnish, 1896-1976), Cantilever lounge chair, 'Model no. 31', late 1930s

Alvar Aalto’s Cantilever Model 31, with its bentwood frame and plywood seat, epitomises the clean lines and technical innovation of the 1930s. This example, dating from the late 1930s, has since become an icon of modern design. The auction also includes examples of Aalto’s popular L-shaped stool.

Finn Juhl (Danish, 1912-1989), 'The Pelican' chair; designed 1940; 21st century

Finn Juhl's fascination with surrealism is evident in the Pelican Chair from 1940 - one of his most forward-thinking designs. Although it received early recognition, it was not put into production until 2001, 61 years after its debut.

Arne Jacobsen (Danish, 1902-1971), for Fritz Hansen, 'Egg' chair and ottoman; designed 1958; 1963

Arne Jacobsen's egg chair is an undisputed icon, designed in the 1950s, this wonderful example dates from the early 1960s.

Martin Szekely (French, B.1956), 'Cork' armchair, 2010

Szekely cork chair is as trendy as it gets, cork presented in a new way! A pair of his cube side tables also feature in the sale.

Xiao Tianyu (Chinese, b.1987), 'Harmony-Light' armchair; 2012
