The chairs date back to circa 1835 and feature stamps on the back reading, ‘HOME OF’ whilst two of the chairs are visibly stamped with a crown above ‘GRV’ on the underside of the seat rail.

The ‘HOME OF’ stamps confirm these chairs must’ve been supplied to the Home Office. The presence of the royal stamp for King George V strongly suggests the chairs remained at the home office or at least in another government or royal property during some or all of King George V’s reign.

Our Head of Furniture, Ben Brown, has given the set of chairs a pre-sale estimate of £5,000 - £7,000.
