Auction Results | Syrie Maugham: A Family Collection | 28 October 2025

On Tuesday 28 October, Dreweatts was delighted to present Syrie Maugham: A Family Collection, an auction offering the private collection of celebrated interior designer Syrie Maugham and her descendants. Bringing together items representing four generations of Maugham women, this remarkable collection offered a rare glimpse into Syrie’s private world - not only her interiors and furnishings, but also the art, friendships, and ideas that shaped them.

The response to the sale affirmed that Maugham’s vision of beauty, light, and modernity remains as compelling today as it was in her own time. Representing the largest assemblage from her personal collection ever to come to market, the auction featured a thoughtfully curated selection of furniture, artworks, and personal objects reflecting both her distinctive aesthetic and her family’s creative heritage.

The sale captured the imagination of the design world, with coverage in House & Garden, Frederic, and TAT London. We were also pleased to welcome interior designer James Mackie, who shared insights into Syrie’s enduring influence and highlighted some of his favourite pieces from the collection. Simon Martin, Director of Pallant House Gallery, offered a fascinating perspective on Glyn Philpot’s striking portrait of Syrie’s son-in-law, Vincent Paravicini - a highlight of the sale, which achieved £94,700.

On the day, spirited bidding from around the world led to a 95% sell-through rate, with the auction total reaching 218% of the pre-sale estimate.
