Auction Results | Old Master, British and European Art | 4 November 2025

On Tuesday 4 November, we were proud to present our Old Master, British and European Art auction - a sale distinguished by its exceptional range and quality. The auction brought together an impressive array of works, encompassing Old Master paintings and drawings, 17th and 18th century portraiture and landscapes, as well as works by leading Victorian artists, together with maritime, sporting, and topographical art, spanning the 16th to the 20th century. These works reflected both historical significance and exceptional quality, offering collectors an unparalleled opportunity to acquire distinguished examples of art across the centuries.

With strong international engagement, bidding was competitive across all platforms - in the room, online, by telephone, and via absentee bids. The sale achieved outstanding results, realising a total of £1.8 million. Reflecting on the results, Head of Sale, Lucy Darlington said, “We are thrilled to see such a competitive market for Old Master, British, and European paintings. Both rediscovered gems, such as Sir Anthony van Dyck’s 'Head of a Man' (Lot 27), and familiar favourites, including 'Portrait of Caroline, Princess of Wales and her Daughter' (Lot 40), achieved exceptional results.

"Participation from Europe, as well as across the Atlantic, was strong, helping us to achieve fantastic prices across the board. Highlights included an early 16th-century Italian altarpiece (Lot 55), as well as 19th-century masterpieces such as Vittorio Matteo Corcos’ 'Hot Air Balloon at Longchamps' (Lot 323). Closer to home, the remarkable 'Ned Baldry’s Shell Horse in a Landscape', attributed to Norfolk artist Thomas Bardwell (Lot 39), sold for an impressive £88,400.”
