Dreweatts' Fine Jewellery auction on 12 June sparkled with great prices achieved for the many beautiful and exclusive pieces on sale, including items by Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.
The bidding was lively, in person, on the telephone and across multiple online bidding platforms, with an overall sales result of over £1.25m (including buyer's premium), 213% of the pre-sale estimate. 88% of the 226 lots sold, with 131 lots (59%) selling above high estimate. Natural pearls and pieces by Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels were particularly popular, with every piece by Van Cleef & Arpels exceeding its high estimate. The most highly contested pieces were two charm bracelets by Van Cleef & Arpels, one suspending six ‘Lovebird’ disc charms and a holly disc charm, the other suspending eight figural bells, which sold for an astonishing £106,450 and £118,950 respectively, beating any previous auction prices for such pieces.
Dreweatts' Head of Jewellery Charlotte Peel had this to say: 'We are so thrilled with the attention this auction has garnered from jewellery enthusiasts and collectors in the UK and worldwide. It’s wonderful to see the strength of the jewellery market and we are just delighted to be able to achieve these fantastic results for our vendors'.
