Dreweatts Wine and Spirits department continue to hold exciting sales, with wines that you have never seen before, through to those for everyday drinking. Our Fine and Rare Wine and Spirits auction on 29 April promises to live up to expectations. Already consigned, we have a bottle of 1959 Mouton Rothschild, some wonderful young white Burgundy, fantastic 1989 Chateau Palmer, and everything else in between.
Ahead of the sale, Head of Dreweatts Wine and Spirits department, Mark Robertson, picks out a highlight from the sale, this bottle of 1961 Romanée Conti.
This wonderful bottle of 1961 Romanée Conti was part of an original consignment sold by Andre Noblet, (Head Wine Maker at Domaine Romanée Conti since 1948) to a French customer in Lozere in 1963. It was gifted to the vendor's family shortly afterwards and has remained in their Wiltshire cellar ever since.
It was recently discovered tucked away in a far corner of the cellar by their son-in-law whilst hunting for suitable bottles of wine to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary. Thankfully they were married in 1960 and so this prestigious bottle of 1961 lived to see another day. We are privileged to be able to offer it in our April auction. Like us all, it shows a few signs of age on the outside, but a magical experience awaits within. This rare bottle, with its exceptional provenance, carries an estimate of £6,000-8,000 (+fees).
