Valuation Finds & Favourites | 'Wittenham Clumps from Days Lock' by British artist Ivon Hitchens

Next in our 'Valuation Finds and Favourites' series, Jennie Fisher, Joint Head of Picture Department looks at this work by British artist Ivon Hitchens, titled Wittenham Clumps from Days Lock. This work came to Dreweatts after a home valuation appointment and will be appearing in our Modern and Contemporary Art auction on 18 March 2021.

'Wittenham Clumps from Days Lock' is a superb example of Hitchens’ landscape painting and a masterclass in the use of colour to create form. The typical sage green interspersed with greys, whites and violets draw the viewer over the water to the landscape beyond. The intersecting lines of the foreground contrasting with the curve of the hills in the distance creating a sense of balance and harmony.
