Creative Director of VSP Interiors Henriette von Stockhausen uses antique furniture and fabrics to bring together rooms that are neither forced nor overly decorated but instead have naturally evolved over time. As a result, her projects resonate with character. Having grown up in Europe and lived in the UK for over 25 years, she has acquired a natural flair for combining classic English country-house style with subtle threads and nuances that come from a broader European design heritage and aesthetic. The results are elegant and distinctive.

Each project is infused with Henriette’s deep knowledge of decorative design and art history. Having spent her early years moving between Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland, she settled in the UK in the 1990s and took up a series of studies. The first was at the City & Guild of London Art Schools before going on to gain a master’s at Sotheby’s Institute in antiques, art and decorative objects from the 17th through to the 20th century. During this time, she worked in the country house sales division at the auction house which deepened her knowledge and appreciation for country-house history and architecture.

Deciding to focus professionally on interior design, Henriette undertook a course at the Inchbald School of Design in London and, on graduating, went to work with various prestigious design studios including Stephen Ryan before establishing her own practice, VSP Interiors, in 2000. Since then, the practice has grown in size and scope and today works on a variety of projects based in the UK and across the world. Based in Dorset, it’s regularly cited as among the best in the country by leading magazines including House & Garden and Country Life yet remains resolutely personal and approachable at its core.
