This summer on Wednesday 12 August, Dreweatts will offer the eclectic collection of Sir William and Lady McAlpine. Together, Sir William and Lady McAlpine cultivated what has aptly been described as a “temple of wonder”, a place where antiques, engineering, theatricality, and humour are united in equal measure. At their home Fawley Hill, one can find salvaged 18th-century panelling, theatrical interiors by leading designers such as Oliver Messel, model railways, textiles, folk objects and curiosities from across the globe all brought together in a manner that is at once deeply personal and visually arresting. Here, Lady McAlpine offers insights into the collection and shares stories behind some of her favourite pieces.
