Coming up, we have our Fine Wine, Champagne, Vintage Port and Spirits auction, taking place on Wednesday 28 May. Already consigned, we are delighted to offer multiple bottles of two fully mature vintages of Champagne Salon from 2002 and 1997 in Bottle and Magnum. Ahead of the auction, Senior Wine Consultant, Mark Robertson, tells us more about this important vineyard.
I am occasionally asked why Champagne Salon is so sought after. My usual response is that this tiny, but historically important house only makes wine in the very best years, from just one of Champagne’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, and exclusively with Chardonnay. The complexity is because of the simplicity. This may seem uninspiring compared to how Salon describe themselves on their website:
"Salon has arrived like some Greek god, with a chiselled profile and lithe, perfectly sculpted long limbs, primed to conquer our hearts and palates. Distinctive for its extraordinary stature, which will forever set it apart. On approach, its fine features seem to crystallise; its line and curve coming into focus, drawing us in with its beauty. Ten years of cellaring were required for this Proteus to develop its impressive physique and insolent beauty."
I know which one has me wanting to try it... In our May sale we invite you to make up your own minds. Are you interested in the grapes and the soil? Or do you want a beautiful chiselled god conquering your heart?
This is a live online auction with an auctioneer.
