Part of this private collection are eight scent bottles of Charles Gouyn St. James’s factory type, with estimates ranging from £750-3,500 (+fees). These are extremely rare and much prized among collectors. Geoffrey Stafford Charles, Head of Dreweatts British and European Ceramics and Glass department, picks out some of his highlights including lot 54, Bacchic group of a boy and goat, circa 1755.

Another interesting scent bottle it lot 55, depicting Bacchic putti with a faun, circa 1755. This intricate design is finished off with the addition of the butterfly stopper. 

Lot 62, modelled as Cupid grinding arrows, circa 1755, is another fine example, and comes with its original fitted shagreen case. 

Looking at other pieces from the private collection, another item of interest is lot 63, a Chelsea porcelain etui or bodkin case and cover, circa 1775. With beautiful detailing, it is surmounted with a caged hen with chicks. A similar model can be found in the V&A.
