Gift 1: Eames lounge chair and ottoman

If you’re planning a relaxing Christmas in front of the fire, then lot 64 might just be the perfect gift.

This 1960s Charles and Ray Eames designed chair and ottoman offers timeless style and a superior level of comfort. The plywood shells are laminated with rosewood, and both the ottoman and the chair are upholstered in premium black buttoned leather.

Ashley expects the matching set, produced for Herman Miller furniture company in the US, to achieve between £800-1,000 (+fees).

Gift 2: Mid-20th century rocking horse

Lot 66 of the Interiors Sale is a mid-20th century rocking horse that’s sure to bring joy to children - and admiring adults - come Christmas morning.

This classic rocking horse features a beautiful painted wood finish. Genuine horse hair is used for both the mane and tail, while a padded saddle ensures a comfortable ride for the lucky owner.

Ashley expects this thoroughbred rocking horse to achieve between £700-1,000 (+fees).

Gift 3: Gilt brass ‘Atmos’ timepiece by Jaeger-LeCoultre

Lot 62 is an elegant ‘Atmos’ timepiece by Jaeger-LeCoultre. This Swiss-made clock would make an eye-catching statement on the mantelpiece above a roaring festive fire.

Made in the 1970s, the clock features a single train movement, wound via the expansion and contraction of an aneroid chamber mounted to the rear of the mechanism.

The clock features multiple ‘Jaeger LeCoultre, Atmos, Swiss Made’ signatures, and Ashley believes this elegant, understated piece will achieve £500-700(+fees) at December’s sale.

Gift 4: A pair of engraved decanters of nautical interest

If there’s a time of year when a pair of beautiful nautical-themed decanters will be of use, it’s Christmas!

Lot 126 features a pair of commemorative club-shaped decanters, each engraved with a ship with reefed sails set and inscribed, ‘Success to the ship Catherine’. 

The decanters are both 21 cm high and are presented with the original matching stoppers. To take home these decanters for the sailing enthusiast in your life, Ashley expects you’ll likely have to pay £250-350 (+fees).

Gift 5: Twelve prints from Cassell’s Canaries and Cage Birds

If you’ve a budding ornithologist in the family, then lot 259 could be the quirky Christmas present you’ve been looking for. 

The twelve colour prints were first published in Cassell’s Canaries and Cage Birds in the late 19th century, to designs by William Rutledge. Each print depicts various species of parakeets, starlings and other wonderfully colourful birds. 

The prints are framed and glazed, ready to grace the walls of the lucky recipient’s home.

Ashley has given the prints a pre-sale estimate of £250-350 (+fees).
