Adrian Hailwood, Dreweatts Senior Watch Specialist, shares an intriguing highlight from the forthcoming Watches and Pens auction on 12 February | A gold open face quarter repeater pocket watch with dead beat seconds. ‘We find that the watch is by Pierre Frédéric Ingold, 1787–1874, a watchmaker who was working in Switzerland, Paris and London.More interesting is the fact that this fine, handmade watch is quite the opposite of what he was famous for. Ingold was a pioneer of mass production who, if he had got his way in 1840s London, would have transformed the British watchmaking industry and the history of watchmaking internationally forever.’ The sale will be on view from Sunday 10 February | 10am-2pm | Donnington Priory#dreweatts #donningtonpriory #watchauction #auction #pocketwatch #watchmovement #watchmaker
