Next week we will be in London. Join us as we showcase selected highlights from Oakley House, the Collection of Eustace Gibbs, 3rd Baron Wraxall, KCVO, CMG. Wednesday 24 & Thursday 25 April | 10am-5pm16-17 Pall Mall, St James’s, London, SW1Y 5LU Here we have ‘Bust of Pola Givenchy’ by Sir Jacob Epstein (British 1881-1959). Pola Givenchy was a Polish model. This bust depicts her beauty and proud sophistication. Epstein chose his models for their physiognomic or psychological interest and included women from all nationalities and backgrounds including a girl from Baku. Epstein didn’t respond to the demand from his dealers for small nudes and continued to sculpt portrait busts of females of distinctive beauty. Epstein constructed his busts by focusing on acute observation and by selecting certain characteristics he was able to show the personality and layer beneath the beauty. The catalogue is now available! Our Transport Sale on 12 March includes nine locomotives from the Lord Braybrooke Collection of Fine Live Steam Locomotives, from the Audley End Miniature Railway. Trains and locomotives played a large part in the life of the late Lord Braybrooke with his interest dating from his childhood. He planned the development of a miniature garden railway in the grounds of Audley End. Lord Braybrooke initially sought advice from the toy manufacturer Bassett-Lowke, and they in turn recommended David Curwen, an engineer and locomotive builder from Wiltshire. And, so began a close friendship and partnership which was to endure for over forty years. Pictured | An exhibition quality 10 ¼ inch gauge model of the Great Western Railway Star Class 4-6-0 live steam tender locomotive ‘Polar Star’ No. 4005. The model was built by the late David Curwen, circa 1989 | Est. £30,000-40,000 #dreweatts #donningtonpriory #miniaturerailway #privatecollection #livesteamlocomotive #collection #worksofart #locomotives #engineeringworksofart #modelengineering #auction
