The catalogue is now available! Our Transport Sale on 12 March includes nine locomotives from the Lord Braybrooke Collection of Fine Live Steam Locomotives, from the Audley End Miniature Railway. Trains and locomotives played a large part in the life of the late Lord Braybrooke with his interest dating from his childhood. He planned the development of a miniature garden railway in the grounds of Audley End. Lord Braybrooke initially sought advice from the toy manufacturer Bassett-Lowke, and they in turn recommended David Curwen, an engineer and locomotive builder from Wiltshire. And, so began a close friendship and partnership which was to endure for over forty years. Adrian Hailwood, Dreweatts Senior Watch Specialist, shares an intriguing highlight from the forthcoming Watches and Pens auction on 12 February | A gold open face quarter repeater pocket watch with dead beat seconds. ‘We find that the watch is by Pierre Frédéric Ingold, 1787–1874, a watchmaker who was working in Switzerland, Paris and London.More interesting is the fact that this fine, handmade watch is quite the opposite of what he was famous for. Ingold was a pioneer of mass production who, if he had got his way in 1840s London, would have transformed the British watchmaking industry and the history of watchmaking internationally forever.’ The sale will be on view from Sunday 10 February | 10am-2pm | Donnington Priory#dreweatts #donningtonpriory #watchauction #auction #pocketwatch #watchmovement #watchmaker
