James Nicholson is Deputy Chairman and International Head of the Jewellery, Silver and Watches Department at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions. Following his graduation from the School of Slavonic & Eastern European Studies, London University, in 1989, James has over 25 years’ experience in the jewellery trade. He began his jewellery career as a management trainee with Mappin & Webb, and became a jewellery specialist with Bonhams in 1991, where he gained his Fellowship of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and his diamond grading qualifications. James joined Dreweatts in 2005 after running his own jewellery dealing business.
During his 12 years at Dreweatts, James has handled the sale of many important jewels, coloured stones and natural pearls as well as watches and historically important silverware, whilst at the same time he has broadened the appeal of the department to incorporate the now hugely popular collecting areas of Luxury Accessories and Fine Pens. Since 2010 James has spearheaded Dreweatts business activities outside the United Kingdom, notably building up Dreweatts presence in Italy, providing client services to Italian consignors and buyers.
