An Egyptian banded alabaster vessel

Estimate £600 - £900 + fees

An Egyptian banded alabaster vessel, probably Third Intermediate Period - Late Period, 21st - 27th Dynasty, 1070 - 404 B.C., of cylindrical form with everted rim, on a waisted stem and circular base

20.5cm high, 10cm diameter

PROVENANCE:

Private Collection, Oxfordshire. Reputedly purchased in Cairo during World War II

CATALOGUE NOTES:

An old paper tag attached to the vessel carries the words DO NOT TOUCH 4000 YEARS OLD! (TOUNA, EGYPT). This tag is most likely incorrect, or at least from a different item altogether, since Touna was a settlement whose heyday was later than the current vessels probable era of manufacture
