Impressive Summer Sale has something for every collector

An excellent and broad collection of paintings, Asian and European glass, ceramics, furniture, rugs and works of art will be offered in Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions, two day Summer Sale on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th August 2014 at Donnington Priory saleroom in Berkshire.

Headlining the paintings section is [Lot 322], John Miles (b. 1781) - Adam naming of the animals, oil on canvas. Miles specialised in rustic scenes, often depicting prize animals along with everyday scenes and events. Although religious subjects are rare within his work, this composition with slight variations was produced on several occasions, and earlier this year, a slightly larger version was sold by Sotheby's for £98,500.

Other works of particular interest include [Lot 321], Pieter Hardime - Carnations, irises and other flowers in an ornamental stone urn with two macaws beneath a blue curtain, oil on canvas and [Lot 339], Master of Staffolos The Madonna and Child with Saint Bernardino and Saint Sebastian. The Master of Staffolo is the name given to the anonymous painter of the high altar of the church of Sant,Egidio in the Marchigian town of Staffolo. Working under the influence of Gentile da Fabriano, this painter enjoyed substantial success in the second quarter of the fifteenth century.

In the furniture section of the sale highlights include [Lot 611], a circa 1750 George II carved giltwood and marble mounted console table in the manner of William Kent, [Lot 563], a very fine example of its type and period; a kingwood and gilt metal mounted bureau plat, in Louis XVI period style and [Lot 507], a pair of George III style, late 19th/early 20th century giltwood, composition and painted torchere stands.

An exceptional private collection of early 20th century Austrian bronzes are amongst the highlights of day two. [Lot 879], a model of a cockerel, [Lot 881], an inkwell cast as a bird of prey, [Lot 883], a model of a saluki, portrayed standing and [Lot 885], a model of a rabbit, the underside stamped ,DEPOSE 1315 GESCHUTZT, are but a few of the impressive pieces featured.

The sale also includes English, Irish and Dutch engraved glass from a private collection in County Antrim, formally in the Collection of the Earl of Bradford, items of interest include [Lot 400], a Dutch engraved light baluster goblet signed and dated by A.C. Schonck, [Lot 402], a Dutch diamond engraved commemorative light baluster marriage goblet signed and dated by A.F Schurman 1757 and [Lot 420], a Dutch stipple engraved facet-stemmed Friendship goblet attributed to David Wolff, circa 1785.
