Complete set of Olympic Posters to be auctioned for charity

Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions Offers the First Ever Opportunity to Acquire the Complete Set of the 2012 Olympic Posters in their Modern & Contemporary Prints auction on 26 September in London.

'Bloomsbury Auctions is proud to be able to offer for the first time ever, the complete set of 12 signed, specially commissioned posters for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games,' said Alexander Hayter, International Head of Contemporary Art. 'The artists, four of whom are Turner Prize winners, have followed in the footsteps of other iconic masters such as Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein all of whom created posters for previous Games.'

The official posters for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games were designed by some of today's leading British contemporary artists, ranging from Tracey Emin, Howard Hodgkin, Chris Offili, Fiona Banner, Gary Hume and Bridget Riley to Rachel Whiteread, Sarah Morris, Rob and Roberta Smith, Michael Craig-Martin, Martin Creed and Anthea Hamilton. Screen prints and lithographs of these works have been on show at Tate Britain as part of the London 2012 Festival and the set of 12 is now being offered for sale at Bloomsbury Auctions with an estimate of £6000-8000. The set was donated to International Inspiration (IN) by the Olympic Committee and the proceeds of the sale will go to the charity.

Each is signed, titled and dated in pencil; the variety of personal interpretations is fascinating, some posters are figurative while others are geometric, some are delicate and poetic while others are bold and supremely colourful, together they express the spirit of London's Olympic Games.

International Inspiration (IN) focuses on increasing the opportunities for children and young people in low and middle income countries to access, enjoy and learn from physical education, sport and play. IN will continue to bring into reality the "Singapore Vision" the promise made by Lord Sebastian Coe and the London 2012 bid team to 'reach young people all around the world and connect them to the inspirational power of sport'.
