One good turn deserves another for 16-year old schoolgirl
Mary’s plan goes under the hammer in Bristol
While most A-level students are preparing for their exams, for this week at least, the auction room at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions in Bristol is foremost in one school girl’s mind.
Recently a family friend gave 16 year old Mary dozens of unwanted collectibles from a deceased estate. They hoped the items - including some First World War memorabilia, tobacciana, postcards and magazines - might raise a few pounds for Mary’s major fundraising drive.
The schoolgirl needs to raise £3000 for her World Challenge educational expedition to Cambodia and Vietnam this summer. Rather than standing in damp fields flogging the items at a series of car boot sales, Mary’s grandfather suggested selling them through the antiques and collectibles market.
Researching the options from his Wiltshire home, Tony Cozzi identified Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions in Bristol as a reputable ‘one stop shop’ outlet for Mary’s collection. Tony took the collection to Bristol for valuation by Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions in-house experts and was happy to report to Mary they had welcomed her collectibles to their catalogue of sale items.
This week Mary’s proud parents will understand if her mind wanders from her books as her collectibles go under the hammer.
Young child Mary is already proving something of an entrepreneur. Aside from an active school life, Mary juggles a part-time job, organising fundraising events, baby-sitting and producing hand-made cards which she sells. With such experience to date, she already fits the philosophy of World Challenge to teach leadership, life skills and expand minds outside the classroom.
Items supporting Mary’s World Challenge will be sold at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions auction house in Bristol this Thursday 7 February 2013. The first of her collection to go under the hammer this week will be a collection of US postcards, tobacciana, magazines and selected games.
Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions is a ‘top 5’ UK auctioneer with a history going back over 250 years to the company’s 1759 origins.
World Challenge provides educational expeditions in the developing world which teach life skills and expand minds outside the classroom.
