Bifolium from a manuscript of the Pauline Epistles , in Latin, on parchment [Italy, thirteenth century]

2 leaves (conjoined), each with single column of 35 lines in a tiny and compact bookhand, capitals touched in red, one-line initials and rubrics in red, one large initial ‘P’ (opening “Paulus apostolus non ab hominibus…”, the opening of Paul’s epistle to Galatians) edged in red penwork, a few medieval notes in margin, one large natural flaw in blank margin at foot, some spots, stains and scuffs, but mostly legible, the gutter of the bifolium split at top and foot and remaining joined only for a few cms in middle of leaves, a few lines trimmed away at top, overall fair and presentable, each leaf 190 by 150 mm.

Lots marked with a delta symbol (δ) are subject to the Artist's Resale Right Law.The buyer agrees to pay Bloomsbury Auctions an amount equal to the resale royalty and we will pay such amount to the artist's collecting agent. Resale royalty applies where the Hammer price is 1,000 Euros or more and the amount cannot be more than 12,500 Euros per lot. The amount is calculated as follows:

Invoices will, as usual, be issued in Pounds Sterling. For the purposes of calculating the resale royalty the Pounds Sterling/ Euro rate of exchange will be the European Central Bank reference rate on the day of the sale.
