Etat Général de l'Empire Otoman [sic] depuis sa Fondation jusqu' a Present
et «regé des Vies des Empereurs, par un solitaire Turc, Traduit par M. de la Croix, 4 vol. including Suite, first edition, lacks the frontispiece, first title little soiled & frayed, little marking elsewhere, author identified in pencil on first title, contemporary mottled calf, rubbed, rebacked, vol.1 lower cover restored, [Atabey 651; not in Blackmer], 8vo, Paris, Pierre Herrisant, 1695-1696.
⁂ Rare, especially with the Suite volume (not found in the Atabey set) which contains accounts of the state of the Greek, Armenian and Maronite churches in the Ottoman Empire. "According to the Gennadius Library, this was translated by Petis de la Croix and edited by La Croix. In fact the privilege is ceded to La Croix, former secretary of the French embassy at Constantinople. It seems likely that there must be a family connection between the two, although the original family of Petis de la Croix was Petis, not La Croix." Atabey. The "solitaire Turc" given as author in the title is here identified as "Hussein Hezarfen - Tankih al-tauarih".
