Sold for £100
A Series of Twenty-nine Designs of Modern Costume,
engraved title and 29 plates of exquisite neo-classical interiors and a few mythological scenes, richly populated with elegant figures reflecting the fashion of the regency period, finely executed line-engravings, occasional spotting, all mounted in a modern album, original short title label, citing Thirty Plates, pasted to upper sheet, oblong 8vo, E. and C. McLean, 1823.
⁂ Scarce. Henry Moses initially worked for the collector, Henry Hope, and collaborated with him in producing engravings of the latter's designs for neo-classical furniture for his home at Deepdene, near Dorking. Sacheverel Sitwell, in Conversation Pieces (1936), wrote of the title offered here that 'the engravings are done with so fine a point that the work becomes like cameo or intaglio cutting. Not only are they of interest because of their place in the historyt of taste, but their fineness and delicacy of execution put them in a category apart'.
