first edition in English , initial imprimatur f., 5 woodcut illustrations within text, lacks folding map and 3 plates, imprimatur f. laid down and with a few small repaired tears, title with small ink number and a few repairs, repair to lower margin of H1, some spotting, browned, antique style panelled calf, spine gilt, spine slightly faded, [Wing V48A; cf. Blackmer 1712], small folio, J.Macock, for John Place, 1665.
⁂ The text consists of 54 letters written by della Valle to the neapolitan physician Schipano duting the course of his travels through the Holy Land, Syria, Persia and India. The greatest number of letters are from Persia and Constantinople.
