Barbados, St.Christophers, St.Vincents, Martinico, Dominico…, translated by John Davies, first English edition, 6 engraved plates only (of 9), 4pp. publisher's catalogue at end, lacking 2X2, browned and some foxing, several paper tape repairs, a few tears, some ink marginalia, water-staining to a few leaves, a little soiled, library morocco [Nissen 'Zoologische' 3448; Sabin 72322; Wing R1740], folio, by J.M. for Thomas Dring and John Starkey, 1666.
⁂ The scarce first English translation of the anonymous French edition of 1658. The work is divided into two parts, the first describing the natural history of the islands, the second the Caribs and their customs, religion and arts. At the end is a vocabulary of the Carib language.
