2 vol., first edition , engraved frontispiece portrait, titles in red and black, lists of subscribers, 14 engraved plates, 7 double-page or folding, woodcut illustrations and diagrams throughout, tables, final plate in vol.1 (microscope) lacking tip at upper outer corner but not affecting image, vol.1 with bookplate of Franz Sondheimer, vol.2 with contemporary ink signature of Henry Streatfeild at head of title, slight worming to upper margin towards end affecting a couple of plates but not images, also browned and lacking l1 & 2 (Table), vol.1 contemporary calf, rubbed and scuffed, rebacked and recornered, vol.2 modern calf (a little smaller than vol.1), both with modern red and green morocco labels, [PMM 171a], folio, Dan Brown, Tim. Goodwin [& others], 1704-10.

Harris was secretary of the Royal Society and consulted with the leading authorities of his day, such as Sir Isaac Newton, John Ray, Robert Boyle, Nehemiah Grew and William Derham, for advice on their relative fields. Vol.2 contains the first appearance of some of Newton's writings. Rare to find first editions of both volumes.
