second edition, title in red and black with woodcut ornament, dedication with engraved coat-of-arms and initial, woodcut head- & tail-pieces, 93 engraved plates (plates 39, 48 & 76 not issued), title lightly browned, occasional spotting, light staining to one or two plates, ex-British Horological Institute library copy with stamps on title, contemporary mottled sheep, spine gilt with red morocco label, splits to joints, spine ends and corners rather worn, [Baillie p.153; Tardy p.115; cf. Clockmakers' 397, 1751 edition], 4to, Lyons, David Forey, 1733.
⁂ A description of the collection of mechanical instruments formed, and predominantly made, by the author s grandfather, Nicolas Grollier de Servi'e8re (1593-1686). He was a military engineer and descendant of Jean Grolier the bibliophile. The collection included clocks, bridges, locks, water-raising devices, mills, military engines, a revolving bookcase, wheelchair etc.; pp.13-33 are concerned with clocks such as falling/rolling ball and magnetic clocks and include 9 plates.
