Trait'e9 de la Division naturelle & artificielle du Tems, des Horloges & des Montres de differentes constructions, de la maniere de les conno'eetre & de la regler avec justesse, 2 parts in 1, second edition, folding engraved plate, engraved table, with 4pp. privilege/errata at end but lacking a1-8, e1-4, blank K4 and all after M7 (to O8), some browning, plate foxed, small marginal defects to H6 and M2, contemporary sprinkled calf, spine gilt in compartments with red morocco label, rubbed, upper joint split, spine ends worn, [Baillie p.150; Tardy p.239], 12mo, Paris, Gregoire Dupuis, 1717.
⁂ Second edition of one of the most famous horological works, with new title and additional material. The first edition was published in Vienna in 1714 and is particularly concerned with the regulating of watches and clocks; it is very rare. The author was an English horologist who established a watch factory at Versailles after moving to Paris in 1714.
This copy is lacking the 24pp. additional prefatory section De la Construction des Horloges, & des Montres en g'e9neral and the final addition Description d'une Montre de nouvelle construction… but includes the additional Extrait de la Lettre du R.P.Kresa S.J. 'e9crite 'e0 M.Williamson, Horloger du Cabinet de Sa Majest'e9 Imp'e9riale, du 9, de Janvier 1715, traduite de l'Espagnol .
