[Biographical Sketches of British Characters Recently Deceased...],
a group of 4 portraits only, mezzotints and engravings, uniformly mounted, issued 1826, portraits include Giuseppe Marchi's Mrs Hartley, after Reynolds, [c.1773], [Chaloner Smith, 9]; Samuel William Reynolds' Portrait of John Phillip Kemble as Hamlet, , [Whitman, 169]; William Ward's mezzotint of Edward, Earl of Harewood, [c.1820], [Chaloner Smith, 45]; and John Raphael Smith's full length portrait of Lord Sheffield, mezzotint, after Angelica Kauffman, [c.1777], [Chaloner Smith, 85], some trimmed, v.s., all unframed (4).
⁂ William Miller published the work 'British Characters recently deceased, commencing with the Accession of George the Fourth, with a list of their Engraved Portraits' in 1826. Apparently only 25 folio copies were issued. Old engravings were inserted and the complete work serves as a published example of the taste known as "Grangerising", where collector's undertook the insertion of extra illustrations into published works.
