Sold for £280
A French Louis XVI style patinated and gilt metal figural mantel clock, circa 1900 , the eight-day bell striking movement with floral garland decorated white enamel Arabic numeral dial set into a case modelled as Cupid resting within billowing clouds, on shaped white marble plinth base inset with gilt scroll cast panels and with toupe feet.
Movement is in clean condition and will run and strike, dial has a very light surface scratch between the winding holes and a very light edge chip to the right-hand hole otherwise appears free from visible damage. Case has poorly fitted/damaged replacement cover behind the movement and has four vacant threaded holes to the billowing cloud beneath the dial indicating that four 'arrows' are lacking. Areas of gilt have been overpainted with gilt paint which is now worn revealing copper electrotype finish/some original gilding to spelter beneath. Marble base is intact but with some light edge chipping in areas. Clock has winding key.
