A French Louis XV style boulle mantel clock, Howell and James, Paris, late 19th century, the eight-day bell striking movement stamped HOWELL & JAMES, PARIS to backplate, the thirteen piece blue on white enamel Roman numeral cartouche dial with fine pierced hands in a waisted brass foliate scroll and green shell marquetry veneered case with floral knop finial to the ogee upstand above mask-centred scroll cast crest and conforming angle mounts incorporating scroll feet to base (losses to marquetry), 31cm (12.25ins) high.
Movement is relatively clean and is in working condition however the pendulum suspension spring is damaged hence will require attention before reliable timekeeping can be acheived. Dial appears free from damage. the case has significant lifting to the brass marquetry to the right hand side together with a small loss, the brass to the left hand side is also starting to lift. The rear door is lacking a substantial amount of brass marquetry to the upper third, the remainder is also starting to lift and there is also some edge losses to the tortoishell veneer. Clock has pendulum but no key.
