An oak settle, 17th century and later elements, panelled carved back with stylised dolphins and winged cherub and linenfold panels, flanked by carved pilasters, open arms terminating in stylised masks, hinged seat opening to a plain interior, foliate carved panelled front, flanked by carved figures, 168cm high, 115cm wide, 52cm deep
The majority of the wood appears to be 17th century, but the seat element could be 18th century.
Request images to show: Old lock plate to base suggest may have been a coffer originally.
The light area is where snout of the animal is broken off through shortgrain of wood.
Images show construction with pilasters added to front and carved head terminals added to fron arms. Back is also shown.
Old splits, worm etc, commensurate with age.
Overall it looks to be made up of old timber, possibly before 19th century.
