An oak cased barograph, R. Bailey, Birmingham circa 1900, with eight segment aneroid chamber mounted within lacquered brass armature operating inked pointer fot the clockwork driven paper-scale lined rotating drum, the base with ivorine trade label R. BAILEY, 14 BENNETTS HILL, BIRMINGHAM beneath five panel bevel-glazed cover on ogee moulded base with chart drawer to apron and squab feet, 37cm (14.5ins) wide.
R. Bailey is recorded in Banfield, Edwin BAROMETER MAKERS AND RETAILERS 1660-1900 as working from 14 & 15 Bennetts Hill, Birmingham circa 1865-85.
Mechanism appears to be in good original condition with only a few minor blemishes to the lacquer finish and appears to be working. The clock mechanism retains its original escapement and is also working, the ink bottle is a replacement and there are a few minor ink stains to the wooden base panel. The case is in good condition with no significant damage however has a few areas of slight wear and other belemishes commenserate with age. Instrument is complete with winding key and a quantity of spare recording charts.
