A gilt brass aneroid pocket barometer compendium with altimeter, thermometer

The circular silvered register with outer scale calibrated 0 to 15000 for altitude in feet divided into tenths, the inner scale calibrated for barometric inches divided into twentieths, the centre with curved mercury tube Fahrenheit scale thermometer beneath signature J. HICKS, MAKER, LONDON 7764 , in cylindtical frosted gilt brass case with rotating bezel fitted with a steel pointer to the inside , 5cm (2ins) diameter; in original leather covered protective case.
James Joseph Hicks is recorded in Banfield, Edwin, BAROMETER MAKERS AND RETAILERS 1660-1900 as working from various addresses in London from 1861.
Instrument genrally appears to be in fine condition with only very light spotting to the original gilt finish in places. The mechanism will respond to change in pressure (has been bag tested) but pointer currently giving incorrect reading so will require adjustment. The thermometer is intact and apears to be working. Outer case is intact but has some wear and the button that operates the clasp is lacking.
