Sold for £180
A French patinated bronze mantel clock, unsigned, circa 1880, the eight-day countwheel bell striking movement with recessed gilt centre to dial within silvered chapter ring with applied gilt Roman numerals, the case with Grecian bust surmount above two stylised griffin terms issuing from scrolls applied to moulded projections flanking the dial, on swept plinth base with delicate stylised ivy leaf tracery relief cast decoration above generous mouldings to the shallow skirt, 48cm (19ins) high.
Movement is in clean condition and will probably run and strike once set up on a level surface and put into beat, however a clean and overhaul is recommended/may be required. Dial has tarnishing to the silvering of the chapter ring, areas of gilt also have a few light surface belmishes, hands are slightly bent also. Case is generally in good original but slightly dirty condition with only very light surface wear to high points in places. Clock is complete with pendulum and winder.
